Section 59.
SCHEDULE 19Social Services Agreement Between Treasury and Ministry of Finance for Northern Ireland
The Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury and the Ministry of Finance for Northern Ireland, with a view to assimilating the burdens on the Exchequer of the United Kingdom and the Exchequer of Northern Ireland in respect of social and allied services, have entered into the following Agreement which amends as from 28th November 1966 the Agreement of 11th February 1949, relating to social and allied services, set out in the Schedule to the [1949 c. 23.] Social Services (Northern Ireland Agreement) Act 1949.
1The said Agreement of 11th February 1949 shall have effect as if:—
(a)there were substituted for sub-paragraphs (a) to (c) of paragraph (i) of article 1 the following sub-paragraphs:—
“(a)the [1966 c. 20.] Ministry of Social Security Act 1966, and the corresponding enactments in Northern Ireland;
(b)the [1965 c. 53.] Family Allowances Act 1965, and the corresponding enactments in Northern Ireland; and
(c)the [1946 c. 81.] National Health Service Act 1946, the [1947 c. 27.] National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1947, and the corresponding enactments in Northern Ireland.”;
(b)in sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (ii) of article 1, for the words " the Family Allowances Act 1945 ", there were substituted the words " the Family Allowances Act 1965 ",
and for the words " the Ministry of National Insurance " there were substituted the words " the Ministry of Social Security ";
(c)in sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (ii) of article 1, for the words " sub-paragraphs (a), (b), (c) and (c)", there were substituted the words " sub-paragraphs (a) and (b) ";
(d)in sub-paragraph (c) of paragraph (ii) of article 1, for the words " sub-paragraph (d)", there were substituted the words " sub-paragraph (c) ";
(e)there were substituted for paragraph (a) of article 3 the following paragraph:—
“(a)to maintain the rates of—
(i)benefits corresponding to those payable in Great Britain under the [1966 c. 20.] Ministry of Social Security Act 1966, and
(ii)family allowances,
in general parity with the rates of benefits and allowances obtaining in Great Britain ; and”.
2This Agreement shall not come into operation until confirmed by Acts of the Parliaments of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland respectively, but upon being so confirmed shall apply as from 28th November 1966.
