17 Honorary sheriff-substitute.S
The [sheriff principal] may by writing under his hand appoint such persons as he thinks proper to hold the office of [honorary sheriff] within his sheriffdom during his pleasure, and for whom he shall be answerable. An [honorary sheriff], during the subsistence of his commission, shall be entitled to exercise the powers and duties appertaining to the office of [sheriff].
