Coming into Operation

The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of powers conferred by section 74 of the Transport Act 1962 and section 18 of the Transport (London) Act 1969 and now vested in him1, and of all other enabling powers and, so far as regards Article 3 of this Order, on the application of the London Transport Executive made with the approval of the Greater London Council, hereby makes the following Order:—

This Order may be cited as the British Railways and London Transport Pension Schemes (Amendment) Order 1973 and shall come into operation on the 14th September 1973.

The British Transport (Amalgamation of Railways' Pension Funds) (No. 2) Order 19702 shall have effect as if in paragraph (4) of Article 6 thereof (which relates to membership of the Committee of the Railway Clearing System Superannuation Fund) there were substituted for the words “three years” the words “six years”.

The London Transport (Alteration of Pension Schemes) Order 19703 shall have effect as if in paragraph (4) of Article 3 thereof (which relates to membership of certain committees, including the Committee of the Railway Clearing System Superannuation Fund) there were substituted for the words “three years” the words “six years”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order amends Article 6(4) of the British Transport (Amalgamation of Railways' Pension Funds) (No. 2) Order 1970 and Article 3(4) of the London Transport (Alteration of Pension Schemes) Order 1970 so as to enable persons who, in consequence of becoming members of the New Section of the British Railways Superannuation Fund or, as the case may be, of the London Transport 1970 Superannuation Fund, cease to be members of the Railway Clearing System Superannuation Fund, to remain as members of the Committee of that fund for a period of six years (instead of three years) from the date of the cessation.
