NATIONAL DEBT

The Savings Contracts (Amendment) Regulations 1977

The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 11 of the National Debt Act 1972, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Savings Contracts (Amendment) Regulations 1977, and shall come into operation on 1st September 1977.

(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

2.  The Savings Contracts Regulations 1969(1), as amended(2), shall be further amended as follows:—

(a)in Regulation 2(1) by inserting, after the definition of “the authority”, the following definition:—

  

Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies”, except in the application of these Regulations to Scotland, means the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies or a deputy appointed by him;;

(b)by deleting Regulation 28(2)(f).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Savings Contracts Regulations 1969 in their application to England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man by making provision, similar to that which previously applied only to Northern Ireland, for a deputy to the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies to adjudicate in respect of disputes relating to savings contracts.
