1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Crown Prosecution Service (Witnesses' Allowances) (Amendment No. 8) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 18th July 1988.

2.  In Schedule 1 to the Crown Prosecution Service (Witnesses' Allowances) Regulations 1986(2), in Column 3 of the Table, which sets out relevant amounts in relation to allowances payable under those Regulations—

(a)for the sums of £52.50 and £105.00 in the entry for regulation 4(a) (locum allowance payable to a professional witness who attends to give evidence) there shall be substituted £56.40 and £112.80 respectively; and

(b)for the sums of £35.00, £52.50, £78.80 and £105.00 in the entry for regulation 4(b) (compensatory allowance payable to such witness) there shall be substituted £37.60, £56.40, £84.60 and £112.80 respectively.

3.  The Crown Prosecution Service (Witnesses' Allowances) (Amendment No. 4) Regulations 1987(3) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations increase the maximum locum and compensatory allowances payable under regulation 4 of the Crown Prosecution Service (Witnesses' Allowances) Regulations 1986 to a professional witness who, at the instance of the Crown Prosecution Service, attends court to give evidence and thereby incurs certain expenditure or suffers certain loss as described in that regulation.
