The A556(M) Motorway (M6 to M56 Link) Supplementary Connecting Roads Scheme 1996

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf: —

1.  This Scheme may be cited as the A556(M) Motorway (M6 to M56 Link) Supplementary Connecting Roads Scheme 1996 and shall come into force on 28th June 1996.

2.  In this Scheme:

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

(2) (i) “connecting road” means a special road along a route described in the Schedule to this Scheme;

(ii)“the plan” means the plan folio, containing two site plans bound together and respectively numbered 1 and 2, numbered HA/16/1/CNW 345, marked “The A556(M) Motorway (M6 to M56 Link) Supplementary Connecting Roads Scheme 1996”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, LG12, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR; and

(iii)“the special roads” means each connecting road.

3.  The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

5.  Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

THE SCHEDULEROUTES OF THE CONNECTING ROADS

Junction with A5033 Northwich Road

1.  A route to connect the northbound carriageway of the M6 motorway with the A5033 Northwich Road (as proposed to be improved by the Secretary of State) at Knutsford (the special road along this route being given the letter G on scheme plan 1 in the plan).

A route to connect the A5033 Northwich Road (as proposed to be improved by the Secretary of State) at Knutsford with the southbound carriageway of the M6 motorway (the special road along this route being given the letter K on scheme plan 1 in the plan).

Junction with Knutsford Motorway Service Area

2.  Four routes to connect the M6 motorway with the Knutsford Motorway Service Area (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the letters H, J, L and P on scheme plan 1 in the plan).

3.  A route to connect the Knutsford Motorway Service Area with the northbound carriageway of the A556(M) Motorway (M6-M56 Link) which the Secretary of State proposes to construct (the special road along this route being given the letter M on scheme plan 1 in the plan).

A route to connect the southbound carriageway of the A556(M) Motorway (M6-M56 Link) which the Secretary of State proposes to construct to the Knutsford Motorway Service Area (the special road along this route being given the letter N on scheme plan 1 in the plan).

Junction with A556 Chester Road Bowdon

4.  A route from the eastbound carriageway of the M56 Motorway to the A556 Chester Road at Bowdon (the special road along this route being given the letter R on scheme plan 2 in the plan).
