Their Lordships, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Them by sections 48(1) and 60 of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 19921 and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
Citation, commencement and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College) (Scotland) Order of Council 1998 and shall come into force on 1st June 1998.

In this Order—
“the Act” means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992;
“the Institution” means Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh; and
“the 1993 Order” means the Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College) (Scotland) Order of Council 19932
Competence to grant academic awards and distinctions2

The Institution is hereby specified as competent to grant all such degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards and distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of subsections (2) and (3) of section 48 of the Act.

The appropriate date for the purposes of paragraph (a) of section 48(2) of the Act shall be 1st June 1998.

In the event that the name of the Institution is changed under section 49 of the Act, or under any other power, the competence to grant any of the awards and distinctions specified in paragraph (1) above shall continue to apply to the Institution as re-named.
Revocation3
The 1993 Order is hereby revoked.
Transitional provision4
Notwithstanding the date specified in Article 2(2) of this Order, where a course of study was completed before that date and in accordance with the 1993 Orderthe Institution was competent to grant an award or distinction in respect of it, the Institution shall remain competent to grant that award or distinction.
