Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of powers conferred on him by section 41(13) and (14) of the National Health Service (Primary Care) Act 19971 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the National Health Service Act 1997 and National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 Amendment Order 1998 and shall come into force on 29th September 1998.

Amendment of section 83A of the National Health Service Act 19772

In section 83A of the National Health Service Act 1977 (remission and repayment of charges and payment of travelling expenses)2, in subsection (1)(a), after “section 79 above” insert “or section 20 of the National Health Service (Primary Care) Act 1997”.

Amendment of section 75A of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 19783

In section 75A of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 (remission and repayment of charges and payment of travelling expenses)3, in subsection (1)(a), after “section 71 above” insert “or section 20 of the National Health Service (Primary Care) Act 1997”.

This Order amends the National Health Service Act 1977 and the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 so as to provide for the scheme for remission and repayment of charges and payment of travelling expenses to extend to charges for personal dental services provided under pilot schemes established under the National Health Service (Primary Care) Act 1997.
