SCHEDULE THE GENERAL OSTEOPATHIC COUNCIL (RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATIONS) RULES 2000

The General Osteopathic Council, in exercise of their powers under sections 3(6) and 14(9) of the Osteopaths Act 1993 M1, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Rules:

Citation and commencement1

These Rules may be cited as the General Osteopathic Council (Recognition of Qualifications) Rules 2000 and shall come into force on 9th May 2000.

Interpretation2

In these Rules—

  • “the Act" means the Osteopaths Act 1993; and

  • “the Committee" means the Education Committee established by section 1(5)(a) of the Act.

Statement of the Education Committee3

The Committee shall publish a statement, and may from time to time amend the statement, indicating—

a

matters on which the Committee will wish to be satisfied before advising the General Council to recognise a qualification under subsection (2) of section 14 of the Act; and

b

matters which may cause the Committee to advise the General Council not to recognise a qualification under that subsection.

Non-United Kingdom Qualifications4

F11

A person who—

a

has obtained a qualification in osteopathy outside the United Kingdom;

b

does not hold a recognised qualification M2; but

c

satisfies the Registrar that he has reached the required standard of proficiency

shall be treated as holding a recognised qualification for the purposes of the Act.
