The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 19801, and now vested in him2, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:—

This Order may be cited as the A249 Trunk Road (Iwade Bypass to Queenborough Improvement) (Detrunking) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 19th October 2000.

In this Order—

i

“classified road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

ii

“the new trunk road” means the new highway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct referred to in Article 2 of the A249 Trunk Road (Iwade Bypass to Neatscourt Roundabout and Bridge) Order 2000, and

iii

“the trunk road” means the A249 Trunk Road.

The lengths of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be trunk road and shall be classified as classified road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the Kent County Council that the new trunk road is open to traffic.

THE SCHEDULELENGTHS OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE TRUNK ROAD

The lengths of the trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are those lengths detailed below, situated on the trunk road between Iwade and Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppey, in the County of Kent, shown by broad black dashes on the plan contained in the plan folio numbered HA10/1/SWD/130, marked “The A249 Trunk Road (Iwade Bypass to Queenborough Improvement) (Detrunking) Order 2000” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, and deposited at the Highways Agency, St Christopher House, Southwark Street, London SE1 0TE:—

that length of the trunk road marked “1” on the plan, from a point on the A249 Sheppey Way about 250 metres northeast of the point where the road crosses the Sittingbourne to Sheerness Railway line to a point on the A249 Iwade Bypass about 690 metres south of the northern terminal roundabout (Kingsferry Interchange) being the back of the nosing of the southbound entry slip road, a distance of approximately 2.06 kilometres;

that length of the trunk road marked “2” on the plan, from a point on the A249 Iwade Bypass about 400 metres south of the northern terminal roundabout (Kingsferry Interchange) being the back of the nosing of the northbound exit slip road to a point on the A249 Sheppey Way about 250 metres northeast of the point where the road crosses the Sittingbourne to Sheerness Railway line, a distance of about 1.78 kilometres; and

that length of the trunk road marked “3” on the plan, from a point on the A249 Sheppey Way about 100 metres southwest of its junction with Ferry Road to a point on the A249 Brielle Way about 490 metres north of the Queenborough roundabout, a distance of about 2.85 kilometres.
