The Private Hire Vehicles (Carriage of Guide Dogs etc.) Act 2002 (Commencement No. 1) (Northern Ireland) Order 2007
The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(2) of the Private Hire Vehicles (Carriage of Guide Dogs etc.) Act 2002().
Citation
1. This Order may be cited as the Private Hire Vehicles (Carriage of Guide Dogs etc.) Act 2002 (Commencement No. 1) (Northern Ireland) Order 2007.
Commencement of Act
2. In so far as the Private Hire Vehicles (Carriage of Guide Dogs etc.) Act 2002 applies to a private hire vehicle licensed by the Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland it shall come into force as follows—
(a)on 1st January 2008, section 1 in so far as it relates to—
(i)subsections (5), (6), (7) and (9) of section 37A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995();
(ii)the power to make regulations under subsection (8) of that section; and
(iii)sections 3 and 4; and
(b)on 1st June 2008, section 1 for all other purposes.

Explanatory Note
This Order brings the Private Hire Vehicles (Carriage of Guide Dogs etc) Act 2002 into force as respects private hire vehicles licensed in Northern Ireland. Amendments are made to the disability Discrimination Act 1995. In particular a new section 37A (carriage of assistance dogs in private hire vehicles) is inserted. It is brought into force partly on 1st January 2008 and fully on 1st June 2008.
