The National Health Service Act 2006 is amended as follows.

in section 254(2) for paragraph (c) substitute—
c
a local authority (as defined in section 579(1) of the Education Act 1996) for the purposes of the exercise of any education functions (as defined in that section).

In section 256(1)(c) for “an authority which is a local education authority for the purposes of the Education Act 1996” substitute “a local authority (as defined in section 579(1) of the Education Act 1996)”.

In section 275(1) omit the definition of “local education authority”.

In Schedule 1—
a
in paragraph 1 for “local education authorities” substitute “local authorities”;
b
in paragraphs 2, 4, 5 and 7A50 for “local education authority” in each place where those words occur substitute “local authority”.
