The Diseases of Swine Regulations 2014

The Secretary of State and the Welsh Ministers are each designated1 for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19722 in relation to the common agricultural policy of the European Union.

These Regulations make provision for a purpose mentioned in that section and it appears to the Secretary of State and the Welsh Ministers that it is expedient for the references in these Regulations to the following European Union instruments to be construed as references to such instruments as amended from time to time—

(a)
Council Directive 92/119/EEC introducing general Community measures for the control of certain animal diseases and specific measures relating to swine vesicular disease3;
(b)
Council Directive 2001/89/EC on Community measures for the control of classical swine fever4; and
(c)
Council Directive 2002/60/EC laying down specific provisions for the control of African swine fever5.
The Secretary of State, in relation to England and Scotland, and the Welsh Ministers, in relation to Wales, make these Regulations under the powers conferred by section 2(2) of, as read with paragraph 1A of Schedule 26 to, the European Communities Act 1972.
