The National Assembly for Wales, in exercise of powers conferred on the Secretary of State for Wales by section 126(3) of the National Health Service Act 1977(1), section 5(1) and (6) of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990(2) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and now vested in the National Assembly for Wales(3) after completion of the consultation prescribed under section 5(2) of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990(4), hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This order may be cited as the Velindre National Health Service Trust (Establishment) Amendment (No. 2) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 1st October 2002.
(2) In this Order, “the principal Order” (“y prif Orchymyn”) means the Velindre National Health Service Trust (Establishment) Order 1993 as amended (5).
2. The principal Order shall be amended by the insertion after article 3(2) of the following—
“(d)to manage and provide to or in relation to the health service in Wales a range of public health, health protection and health advisory services, child protection services, microbiological laboratory services and services relating to the surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases.”.
3. In article 4 of the principal Order (Directors of the trust), for “4 executive directors” substitute “5 executive directors.”.

This Order further amends the Velindre National Health Service Trust (Establishment) Order 1993 (the principal Order) so as to amend its functions and increase its number of executive directors.
The Order extends the functions of the trust to include the function of managing and providing a range of public health, health protection and advisory services, child protection services, microbiological laboratory services and services relating to the surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases.
The Order amends the principal Order by increasing the number of executive directors from 4 to 5.
1977 c. 49; section 126(3) was amended by section 65(2) of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 (c. 19).
The functions of the Secretary of State for Wales under s.126(3) of the National Health Service Act 1977 and s.5(1) of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 were transferred to the National Assembly for Wales by the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/672).
Section 5(2) was substituted by paragraph 69 of Schedule 1 to the Health Authorities Act 1995 (c. 17).
