An Act to confirm and give effect to an agreement relating to the establishment of an Agricultural Research Station for Northern Ireland, and to incorporate certain Trustees for the control and management of the said Station, and for purposes connected therewith.

WHEREAS by an agreement dated the twenty-eighth day of October, nineteen hundred and twenty-six and made between the Ministry of Finance for Northern Ireland (in this Act referred to as “the Ministry of Finance”) of the first part, the Ministry of Agriculture for Northern Ireland (in this Act referred to as “the Ministry of Agriculture”) of the second part and James Scott Gordon of Beaconsfield, Knock Road, in the City of Belfast, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, James Pimlott of Wyverdale, Glen Road, Comber, in the County of Down, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Agriculture, Josias Cunningham of Glencairn, Glencairn Road, in the City of Belfast, Farmer and Manufacturer, George Scott Robertson of Glenaltans, King's Road, in the City of Belfast, Head of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry in the Queen's University of Belfast, Robert Rae of 112 Malone Avenue, in the City of Belfast, Head of the Department of Crop and Animal Husbandry in the Queen's University of Belfast, William Robert Morrow of Ben Vista, Knock, in the County of Down, Farmer, Alexander John McDonnell Pilkington of Parkmore, in the County of Antrim, Farmer, John Martin Mark of The Banks, Limavady, in the County of Londonderry, Solicitor and Farmer, and Harold Adrian Milne Barbour of Strathearne, Dunmurry, in the County of Antrim, Linen Thread Manufacturer, (in this Act referred to as “the Trustees”) of the third part, which agreement is set forth in the Schedule to this Act, and is in this Act referred to as “the scheduled agreement,” it was agreed upon the conditions therein mentioned that the Ministry of Finance should permit the Trustees to use and occupy part of the lands which are referred to in the scheduled agreement and in this Act as “the Great Park” (which Great Park consists of certain lands, being part of the townland of Large Park situate in the Barony of Iveagh Lower, Upper Half, and County of Down) as an Agricultural Research Station for the purposes of carrying out research in animal nutrition and conducting experiments and investigations relating to animals and to crops:
And whereas the Great Park is now vested in the Ministry of Finance under and by virtue of an indenture dated the twenty-fifth day of January, nineteen hundred and twenty-seven, and made between the Commissioners of His Majesty's Public Works and Buildings of the one part and the Ministry of Finance of the other part:
And whereas the provisions of the scheduled agreement cannot take effect without the authority of Parliament:
The Trustees named in the scheduled agreement and new trustees to be appointed in pursuance of the provisions thereof shall be a body corporate called by the name of “the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland” with perpetual succession and a common seal and with power to acquire and hold land …F1.
The scheduled agreement is hereby confirmed and shall have effect as if enacted in this Act and shall bind the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland as if the said Institute were substituted as a party for and had executed the scheduled agreement in place of the Trustees.
(1)There shall be paid out of moneys provided by Parliament such sums as may under the scheduled agreement become payable by the Ministry of Finance to the said Institute for the purposes of the Capital Fund, the Endowment Fund, and the interim payment therein mentioned, not exceeding the respective amounts therein specified.
(2)No stamp duty shall be charged on the scheduled agreement.
This Act may be cited as the Agricultural Research Station Act (Northern Ireland), 1927.
The Schedule sets out the terms of the Agreement dated 28th October, 1926 between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Trustees of the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland whereby the Ministry of Finance undertook to permit the Institute to use and occupy land forming part of the Great Park, Hillsborough, County Down for the purposes of the Institute.
