The Taxis (Strabane) (Amendment) Bye-Laws (Northern Ireland) 2005

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 65(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Bye-Laws:

Citation and Commencement

1.  These Bye-Laws may be cited as the Taxis (Strabane) (Amendment) Bye-Laws (Northern Ireland) 2005 and shall come into operation on 6th January 2006.

Bye-Laws amended

2.  The Taxis (Strabane) Bye-Laws (Northern Ireland) 1988(2) shall be amended as follows—

(1) In bye-law 2 (interpretation) for the definition of “taxi” there shall be substituted—

“taxi” means a public service vehicle used in standing or plying for hire and used to carry passengers for hire and being a vehicle seating not more than eight passengers in addition to the driver.

(2) After bye-law 3 there shall be inserted—

Use of stands or starting places

4.  No vehicle other than a taxi shall use the stands or starting places specified in Column 2 of the Schedule at any time..

(3) In the Schedule for the entry relating to Main Street there shall be substituted—

Revocation

3.  The Taxis (Strabane) (Amendment) Bye-Laws (Northern Ireland) 1996(3) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Bye-Laws)

These Bye-laws further amend the Taxi (Strabane) Bye-Laws (Northern Ireland) 1988 by—

(1) increasing, in the definition of “taxi”, the number of seated passengers who can be carried from 6 to 8 in addition to the driver;

(2) prohibiting vehicles other than taxis from using the stands and starting places; and

(3) prescribing the new location of the taxi stand in Main Street, Strabane and increasing from 6 to 11 the number of taxis that may stand at that location.

The Taxis (Strabane) (Amendment) Bye-Laws (Northern Ireland) 1996 are revoked as a consequence.
