20 Punishment of offences.E+W+S

(1)A person guilty of an offence under section 15(1) of this Act shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding twenty pounds.

(2)A person guilty of an offence under any of the foregoing provisions of this Part of this Act other than section 15(1) shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding one hundred pounds (or, in the case of a second or any subsequent offence under the same provision, two hundred and fifty pounds), or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or to both.

(3)Proceedings in England or Wales for an offence under any of the . . . F1provisions of this Part of this Act may be instituted only by or with the consent of the Minister or with the consent of the Attorney General.

C1S. 20(1) has effect as if the fine there mentioned was a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale by virtue of (E.W.) 1982 c. 48, ss. 39, 46, Sch. 3 and (S.) 1975 c. 21, s. 289H, Sch. 7D para. 18 (as inserted by 1982 c. 48, s. 54) (which 1975 Act was repealed (1.4.1996) by 1995 c. 40, ss. 6, 7(2), Sch. 5) and (1.4.1996) (S.) by virtue of 1995 c. 40, ss. 3, 7(2), Sch. 1 para. 10, Sch. 2 Pt. III.

C2S. 20(2) has effect as if the fines there mentioned were fines not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale by virtue of (E.W.) 1982 c. 48, ss. 39, 56, Sch. 3, Sch. 6 para. 19 and (1.4.1996) (S.) by virtue of 1995 c. 40, ss. 3, 7(2), Sch. 1 para. 10, Sch. 2 Pt. III.
