NURSES, MIDWIVES AND HEALTH VISITORS

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10(2) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979(1) and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, having consulted the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting in accordance with section 10(5) of that Act, I hereby make the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Parts of the Register) Amendment (No. 2) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 1st September 1989.

Amendment of Order

2.—(1) The Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Parts of the Register) Order 1983(2), shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this article.

(2) After article 1 (citation and commencement) there shall be inserted the following article:

Interpretation

1A.  In this Order the expression “course of preparation” shall have the same meaning as in the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Rules 1983(2)..

(3) In Schedule 1 (Parts of the Register) after the entry for “Part 11 — Health visitors” there shall be added the following entries:–

  1. Part 12 Nurses qualified following a course of preparation in adult nursing.

  1. Part 13 Nurses qualified following a course of preparation in mental health nursing.

  1. Part 14 Nurses qualified following a course of preparation in mental handicap nursing.

  1. Part 15 Nurses qualified following a course of preparation in children’s nursing..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order further amends the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Parts of the Register) Order 1983 which specifies the various parts of the register of qualified nurses, midwives and health visitors. Article 2 of this Order amends Schedule 1 to that Order by adding to the register a further four parts to accommodate four additional categories of nurses, namely those who are qualified following a course of preparation in, respectively, adult nursing, mental health nursing, mental handicap nursing or children’s nursing.
