In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 171(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988(1), I hereby make the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Commencement No. 11) Order 1990.

2.  Sections 22 (suppression of terrorism) and 65 (powers of civilian fine enforcement officers) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 shall come into force on 5th June 1990.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 5th June 1990 sections 22 and 65 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988. Section 22 adds certain offences to the offences listed in Schedule 1 to the Suppression of Terrorism Act 1978 (c. 26) which for the purposes of extradition and certain other purposes are not to be regarded as of a political character. Section 65 amends sections 125(2) and 136(2)(a) of the Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 (c. 43) so as to enable civilian employees of prescribed authorities, when authorised in the prescribed manner, to execute, in the area in which their employing authority performs its functions, certain categories of warrants in connection with the enforcement of fines and other sums adjudged to be paid by a summary conviction.
