The Wireless Telegraphy (Television Licence Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 1996

The Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949(1), as it has effect in the United Kingdom and as extended by the Wireless Telegraphy (Channel Islands) Order 1952(2) and the Wireless Telegraphy (Isle of Man) Order 1952(3), and now vested in her(4), hereby, with the consent of the Treasury, makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement, interpretation and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Wireless Telegraphy (Television Licence Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 1st April 1996.

(2) In these Regulations “the 1991 Regulations” means the Wireless Telegraphy (Television Licence Fees) Regulations 1991.(4)

(3) Except as provided in regulation 2(2) below, these Regulations extend to the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

Amendment of 1991 Regulations

2.—(1) The 1991 Regulations shall be further amended as follows:

(a)in Schedule 2—

(i)for “£28.50” in each place where it occurs there shall be substituted “£30.00”;

(ii)for “£86.50” in each place where it occurs there shall be substituted “£89.50”;

(b)in entry 1 in Schedule 3—

(i)for “£43.26” there shall be substituted “£44.76”;

(ii)for “£21.62” there shall be substituted “£22.37”; and

(c)in entry 2 in Schedule 3—

(i)for “£22.89” there shall be substituted “£23.64”;

(ii)for “£22.87” there shall be substituted “£23.62.”(5)

(2) The 1991 Regulations as they have effect in the United Kingdom, the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man shall be further amended by substituting for entry 3 in Schedule 3(6) the entry set out in the Schedule to these Regulations.

SCHEDULE

Entry to be substituted for entry 3 in Schedule 3 to the 1991 Regulations.

3 Budget instalment television licence (including colour)A licence to instal and use black and white or colour television receivers at the single place specified in the licence or (as the case may be) in the single vehicle or vessel so specified.an issue fee of £52.25 and thereafter five instalments of £7.45; or
an issue fee of £51.00 and thereafter five instalments of £7.70; or
an issue fee of £48.85 and thereafter five instalments of £8.13; or
an issue fee of £47.70 and thereafter five instalments of £8.36; or
an issue fee of £44.75 and thereafter five instalments of £8.95; or
an issue fee of £43.75 and thereafter five instalments of £9.15; or
an issue fee of £39.80 and thereafter five instalments of £9.94; or
an issue fee of £38.95 and thereafter five instalments of £10.11; or
an issue fee of £33.60 and thereafter five instalments of £11.18; or
an issue fee of £32.95 and thereafter five instalments of £11.31; or
an issue fee of £25.60 and thereafter five instalments of £12.78; or
an issue fee of £25.25 and thereafter five instalments of £12.85; or
an issue fee of £17.90 and thereafter four instalments of £17.90; or
an issue fee of £14.95 and thereafter five instalments of £14.91. In each case the first instalment shall be payable within the period of one month beginning immediately after the issue of the licence and the second,, third,, fourth and,, where applicable,, the fifth within the periods of two,, three,, four and five months respectively beginning immediately after that issue.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations increase the amount of the basic fee for television licences from £28.50 to £30 in the case of monochrome and from £86.50 to £89.50 in the case of colour. In the case of instalment licences—

(a)the issue fee for the Standard Instalment Licence is increased from £43.26 to £44.76 with instalments increased from £21.62 to £22.37;

(b)the issue fee for the Premium Instalment Licence is increased from £22.89 to £23.64 with instalments increased from £22.87 to £23.62;

(c)amendments are made in relation to the Budget Instalment Licence so that provision is made for the payment of one of fourteen specified issue fees and, in one case, four but otherwise five equal instalments thereafter; in each case the total amount payable is £89.50.
