The Mali (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) Order 2020

Under Article 41 of the Charter of the United Nations the Security Council of the United Nations has, by a resolution adopted on 5th September 2017, called upon Her Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom to apply certain measures to give effect to decisions of that Council in relation to Mali(1):

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 1 of the United Nations Act 1946(2) and section 63(3)(c) and (4) of the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018(3), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to make the following Order:

(1)

The Security Council of the United Nations adopted resolution 2374 (2017) on 5 September 2017 (“resolution 2374”). Paragraph 1 of resolution 2374 requires States to take the necessary measures to prevent the entry into or transit through their territories of all persons designated pursuant to paragraphs 8 and 9 of that resolution. Paragraph 1 of resolution 2374 was renewed by paragraph 1 of resolution 2432 (2018) adopted by the Security Council on 30 August 2018, paragraph 1 of resolution 2484 (2019) adopted by the Security Council on 29 August 2019, and paragraph 1 of resolution 2541 (2020) adopted by the Security Council on 31 August 2020.
