At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 20th day of January 2020

By the Lords of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council

The University of Surrey (“the University”) is a university in the United Kingdom providing courses of study and examinations leading to a veterinary degree.

It appears to the Privy Council, after consultation with the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, that the courses of study and examinations are sufficient to guarantee that holders of the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Science (BVMSci) conferred by the University will have acquired the knowledge and skill needed for the efficient practice of veterinary surgery and will have satisfied the requirements of Article 38 of Directive 2005/36/EC(1), as read with Article 22(a) of that Directive.

Their Lordships, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(1)(b) of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966(2), make the following Order.

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons (Recognition of University Degree) (Surrey) Order of Council 2020 and comes into force on 18th February 2020.

Recognition of university degree

2.  Anyone on whom the University of Surrey confers the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Science (BVMSci) is qualified to be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and is, on application in the manner and on payment of the fee prescribed by regulations of the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons made under section 11 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966(3), entitled to be registered in the Register of Veterinary Surgeons and on so being registered becomes a member of that College.
