POLICE, WALES

The Police Reform Act 2002 (Commencement) (Wales) Order 2003

The National Assembly for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 108(4) of the Police Reform Act 2002(1), hereby makes the following Order:

Name and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order is called the Police Reform Act 2002 (Commencement) (Wales) Order 2003.

(2) In this Order, “the 2002 Act” means the Police Reform Act 2002.

Commencement

2.  Sections 97 and 98 of the 2002 Act (crime and disorder reduction partnerships and the National Assembly for Wales’s role in relation to strategies) are to come into force on 1st April 2003 so far as they relate to local government areas in Wales.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force the provisions of sections 97 and 98 of the Police Reform Act 2002 (“the 2002 Act”) in so far as they relate to Wales on 1st April 2003.

Section 97 of the 2002 Act makes various changes to crime and disorder reduction partnerships by way of amendments to sections 5, 6, 17(2), 114 and 115(2) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (“the 1998 Act”).

Section 98 of the 2002 Act inserts a new section 6A in the 1998 Act. This new section 6A sets out, in so far as it relates to Wales, the functions of the National Assembly for Wales in relation to strategies for crime reduction.
