CHAPTER 51U.K. Wool, fine or coarse animal hair; horsehair yarn and woven fabric

For headings 5101 to 5103 specific requirements for untreated wool and hair are set out in Row 8 of Table 2 in Section 1 of Chapter II of Annex XIV to Regulation (EU) No 142/2011.

1.Throughout the nomenclature:
(a)

‘Wool’ means the natural fibre grown by sheep or lambs.

(b)

‘Fine animal hair’ means the hair of alpaca, llama, vicuna, camel (including dromedary), yak, angora, Tibetan, Kashmir or similar goats (but not common goats), rabbit, (including angora rabbit), hare, beaver, nutria or muskrat.

(c)

‘Coarse animal hair’ means the hair of animals not mentioned above, excluding brush-making hair and bristles (heading 0502) and horsehair (heading 0511).

Throughout the Nomenclature the term ‘coarse animal hair’ means all other animal hair than ‘fine animal hair’ except wool (heading 5101), hair of the manes or tails of equine or bovine animals (classified as ‘horsehair’ heading 0511), pigs’, hogs’ or boars’ bristles or hair and badger hair or other brush‐making hair (heading 0502) (see Note 1(c)).
