1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security (Graduated Retirement Benefit) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 and shall come into operation on 6th April 2005.
(2) Regulation 4, and paragraphs 4(2) and (3) and 14(2) and (3) of Schedule 1 in so far as they apply to that regulation, shall not have effect in relation to incremental periods beginning before 6th April 2005.
(3) In these Regulations –
“the 1966 Act” means the National Insurance Act (Northern Ireland) 1966(1);
“the Claims and Payments Regulations” means the Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987(2);
“the Contributions and Benefits Act” means the Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992 and references to Schedule 5 are to Schedule 5 to that Act(3);
“the Deferral Regulations” means the Social Security (Deferral of Retirement Pensions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005(4);
“incremental period” shall have the meaning ascribed to it in paragraph 4(6) of Schedule 1;
“the Pensions Schemes Act” means the Pensions Schemes (Northern Ireland) Act 1993(5).
