The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the power conferred by section 7(2)(b) of the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Act 2024(1).

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Act 2024 (Commencement) (Scotland) Regulations 2024 and come into force on 22 July 2024.

Appointed day

2.  22 July 2024 is the day appointed for the coming into force of sections 1 (prohibition of export of livestock for slaughter) and 5 (connected repeals in relation to horses) of the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Act 2024.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations bring into force in relation to Scotland the remaining provisions of the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Act 2024 (c. 11) (“the Act”) which did not come into force on the day on which the Act was passed. Those provisions are sections 1 (prohibition of export of livestock for slaughter) and 5 (connected repeals in relation to horses) of the Act. They come into force on 22 July 2024. The Bill for the Act received Royal Assent on 20 May 2024.
