The General Medical Council (Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations) Order of Council 2001

By the Lords of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council

Whereas in pursuance of section 32 of the Medical Act 1983(1) the General Medical Council have made the Medical Practitioners Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 as set out in the Schedule to this Order:

And whereas by subsection (8) of that section such regulations shall not have effect until approved by Order of the Privy Council:

Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken those regulations into consideration, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 32(8), do hereby order as follows:

1.  The Medical Practitioners Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 are hereby approved.

2.  This Order may be cited as the General Medical Council (Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations) Order of Council 2001.

SCHEDULETHE MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS REGISTRATION (FEES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2001

The General Medical Council in exercise of their powers under section 32 of the Medical Act 1983(2) hereby makes the following regulations:—

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) These regulations may be cited as the Medical Practitioners Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 1st January 2002.

(2) In these regulations “the principal regulations” means the Medical Practitioners Registration (Fees) Regulations 1985(3).

2.  For sub-paragraphs (d) to (g) of paragraph (2) of regulation 4 of the principal regulations there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraphs:—

(d)On full registration under section 3 of the Act:

(i)in the case of a person who is or has at any time been provisionally registered ... ... ... ...£290

(ii)in the case of any other person ... ... ... ...£290

except in the case of a person who is already fully registered when no fee shall be payable

(e)On full registration under section 19 of the Act

(i)in the case of a person who is or has at any time been provisionally registered ... ... ... ...£290

(ii)in the case of any other person ... ... ... ...£290

(f)On full registration by virtue of section 25 of the Act ... ... ... ...£290

(g)On registration under section 27 of the Act ... ... ... ...£290.

3.  For regulation 6 of the principal regulations there shall be substituted the following regulation:—

6.  The annual retention fee shall be £290.

4.  For regulation 15 of the principal regulations there shall be substituted the following regulation:—

15.  The restoration fee shall be £290.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Regulations approved by this Order amend, with effect from 1st January 2002, the fees payable to the General Medical Council by medical practitioners in respect of inclusion on, retention in or restoration to the register.

The existing level of fees was fixed in 2000.
