Citation, commencement, operation, amendment, extent and revocation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Liberia (United Nations Sanctions) (Isle of Man) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 16th March 2001.

(2) Subject to paragraph (3) below, this Order shall remain in force until 7th May 2002 unless, on or before that date, the Security Council of the United Nations decides to extend the measures provided for in paragraph 5 of the resolution adopted by it on 7th March 2001 for a further period, in which case this Order shall remain in force for the further period specified in that decision.

(3) If the Security Council of the United Nations takes any decision which has the effect of cancelling or postponing or suspending the operation of the resolution adopted by it on 7th March 2001, in whole or in part, this Order shall cease to have effect or its operation shall be postponed or suspended, in whole or in part, as the case may be, in accordance with that decision.

(4) Particulars of any decisions referred to in paragraph (2) and (3) above shall be published by the Secretary of State in a notice in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes.

(5) This Order shall extend to the Isle of Man, as part of its law.

(6) Articles 3, 4 and 5 shall apply to any person within the Isle of Man and to any person elsewhere who—

(a)is a British citizen, a British Dependent Territories citizen, a British Overseas citizen, a British subject, a British National (Overseas) or a British protected person and is ordinarily resident in the Isle of Man; or

(b)is a body incorporated or constituted under the law of the Isle of Man.

(7) The United Nations Arms Embargoes (Somalia, Liberia and Rwanda) (Isle of Man) Order 1996(1) shall be amended as follows:

(a)in article 2(1), in the definition of “prohibited destination” omit “, Liberia”;

(b)in article 8(9)(c), omit “, Liberia”; and

(c)in paragraph 4(c) of the Schedule to that Order, omit “, Liberia”.
