(This note is not part of the Order)
The council of the County of Berkshire was abolished by article 2 of the Berkshire (Structural Change) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1879). However, by virtue of article 2 of the Berkshire (Coroners) Order 1998, the three existing coroners' districts within that county continued in existence. This Order amalgamates those three districts into one coroner’s district to be known as the Berkshire Coroner’s District.
Article 3 provides for the council of the Borough of Reading to be the relevant council for the purposes of appointing the coroner under section 1 of the 1988 Act.
