The Education (National Curriculum for Wales) Disapplication of Science at Key Stage 4) Regulations 2006

Interpretation

2.—(1) In these Regulations–

“the 2002 Act” means the Education Act 2002;

“ACCAC” (“ACCAC”) means the Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales or Awdurdod Cymwysterau, Cwricwlwm ac Asesu Cymru (1);

“the fourth key stage” (“y pedwerydd cyfnod allweddol”) is to be construed in accordance with section 103(1) of the 2002 Act;

“maintained school” (“ysgol a gynhelir”) means a community, foundation or voluntary school or a community or foundation special school (other than one established in a hospital);

“National Assembly” (“Cynulliad Cenedlaethol”) means the National Assembly for Wales; and

“NQF” (“NQF”) means the National Qualifications Framework comprising qualifications accredited jointly by the National Assembly exercising functions formerly vested in ACCAC and the corresponding regulatory authorities for England and Northern Ireland (2), and “level” means the level (“lefel”) to which a qualification is accredited within the NQF.

(2) For the purposes of these Regulations, references to the requirements of the National Curriculum for Wales for science at the fourth key stage are references to the requirements of section 106(1) of the 2002 Act in so far as they apply to science(3).
