1.Category ‘A light’ motorcycles (of model 1) are of a power not exceeding 25 kW and with a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0,16 kW /kg, this slightly differs from the new category A2 (which are motorcycles of a power not exceeding 35 kW and with a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0,2 kW/kg). The minimum age for a person to obtain category A light is now 18 years old, under Directive 2006/126/EC the minimum age for obtaining category A2 is 18 years old for direct access.U.K.

The minimum age for a person to obtain category A motorcycles (of model 1) is now 21 years old. If a person has two years of driving experience with category A light, he or she is automatically entitled to drive a category A motorcycle as well. Under Directive 2006/126/EC the minimum age for obtaining category A is 24 years old for direct access, or 20 years when having 2 years of experience with category A2.

From 1 May 2004, the new EU countries are also added on the back of driving licence model 2.

On driving licence model 2, space is already reserved for the new categories of Directive 2006/126/EC. These are not implemented until 19.01.2013.
