THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,
Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community,
Having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 of 19 May 1998 concerning short term statistics(1) and in particular Article 17, points (b), (d) and (e) thereof,
Whereas:
(1) Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 established a common framework for the production of short-term Community statistics on the business cycle. The scope of these statistics has been modified by Regulation (EC) No 1893/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 establishing the statistical classification of economic activities NACE Revision 2(2).
(2) Commission Regulation (EC) No 1503/2006 of 28 September 2006 implementing and amending Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 concerning short-term statistics as regards definitions of variables, list of variables and frequency of data compilation(3) provided definitions of variables.
(3) Regulation (EC) No 1158/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 6 July 2005 amending Regulation (EC) No 1165/98(4) introduced feasibility studies on hours worked and gross wages and salaries in retail trade and other services.
(4) For the purpose of the monetary policy of the Community, short-term business statistics should be further developed, especially on services. It is therefore necessary to update Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 in areas of particular importance to the study of the business cycle.
(5) Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 should therefore be amended accordingly.
(6) The measures provided for in this Regulation are in accordance with the opinion of the Statistical Programme Committee, established by Council Decision 89/382/EEC, Euratom(5),
HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION:
Annexes C and D to Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 of 19 May 1998 are amended as set out in the Annex to this Regulation.
This Regulation shall enter into force on the 20th day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.

Divisions 45 and 46;
Sections H, I and J;
sum of (69, 70.2, 71, 73 and 74);
sum of (78, 79, 80, 81.2 and 82).’
