Article 22Cooperation and coordination

F1The appropriate authority shall, when complying with F7its obligations under this Regulation, make every effort to ensure close coordination with F2other countries concerned and, where practical and appropriate, use existing structures arising from regional or international agreements. F8In particular the appropriate authority concerned shall endeavour to ensure coordination with other countries that share:

a

the same marine subregions F9specified in Article 4(2) of Directive 2008/56/EC, regarding marine species;

b

the same biogeographical region F10specified in point (iii) of point (c) of Article 1 of Directive 92/43/EEC, regarding non-marine species;

any other common concern.

F11The Secretary of State must also endeavour to ensure co-ordination with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland and with the Republic of Ireland.

F4The appropriate authority shall, when complying with F12its obligations under this Regulation, endeavour to cooperate with F5other countries, as appropriate, including by using existing structures arising from regional or international agreements, for the purpose of meeting the objectives of this Regulation.

For the purposes of paragraph 1(a), the reference to Article 4(2) of Directive 2008/56/EC is to be read as if, in that Article—

a

for the words before point (a) there were substituted “ The marine sub-regions are— ”;

b

the words after point (b) were omitted.
