Commencement of Petroleum Act 1998

2.—(1) The Petroleum Act 1998 (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”) shall come into force in accordance with section 52(4) thereof on 15th February 1999, and, accordingly, all the provisions of the Act other than the excepted provisions mentioned in the following paragraph shall come into force on that day.

(2) The excepted provisions referred to in the preceding paragraph are–

(a) section 5(1) to (4) and (11) and section 52 of the Act (which, as provided in section 52(1), came into force on the passing of the Act), and

(b) paragraphs 8, 10, 11, 13, 34 and 40 of Schedule 4 and the repeals in Schedule 5 to the Act of the Employment (Continental Shelf) Act 1978(1), of section 287(5) of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992(2) and of section 201(5) of the Employment Rights Act 1996(3) (which, as provided in section 52(2), come into force in accordance therewith).
