Provisions coming into force on 5th February 2015

2.—(1) Section 1 of the Act comes into force on 5th February 2015 insofar as it inserts sections 255A (“the Wrecks Convention”), 255J (Wreck removal insurance), 255N (issue of certificates) and 255R (interpretation etc.) and Schedule 11ZA into the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(1) for the purposes set out in paragraph (2).

(2) The purposes are to enable the Secretary of State—

(a)to issue wreck removal insurance certificates in accordance with section 255N,

(b)to make regulations under section 302 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 prescribing the fees to be charged in respect of the issue of such certificates, and

(c)by order to describe the United Kingdom’s Convention area.
