1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Bereavement Benefits (Remedial) Order 2023.
(2) This Order comes into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
(3) The amendments made by articles 4 to 9 are to be treated as having had effect from 30th August 2018.
(4) In this Order—
“bereavement support payment” means a bereavement support payment under section 30 of the Pensions Act 2014 or section 29 of the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2015(1) (bereavement support payment);
“widowed parent’s allowance” means a widowed parent’s allowance under section 39A of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992(2) or section 39A of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992(3) (widowed parent’s allowance).

Section 39A was inserted by section 55(2) of the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999 (c. 30) and amended by sections 254(1) and 261(4) of, and paragraph 20 of Schedule 24 and Schedule 30 to, the Civil Partnership Act 2004 (c. 33), section 1(3) of and paragraph 3 of Schedule 1 to the Child Benefit Act 2005 (c. 6), section 51 of the Welfare Reform Act 2007 (c. 5), section 31(5) of and paragraph 12 of Schedule 16 to the Pensions Act 2014, S.I. 2014/560, S.I. 2014/3229 and S.I. 2019/1458.
Section 39A was inserted by S.I. 1999/3147 (N.I. 11) and amended by paragraph 74 of Schedule 24 to the Civil Partnership Act 2004, paragraph 29 of schedule 1 to the Child Benefit Act 2005, section 47 of the Welfare Reform Act (Northern Ireland) 2007 (c. 2) (N.I.), paragraph 12 of Schedule 16 to the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 and S.I. 2019/1514.
