The Pharmaceutical Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1992

Title and commencement1.
This Order may be cited as the Pharmaceutical Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1992 and shall come into operation on such day as the Head of the Department of Health and Social Services may by order appoint.
General interpretation2.
Extension of pharmaceutical services to include drugs and medicines ordered by nurses3.
(a)
in sub-paragraphs (a) and (b) the word “and” at the end of each sub-paragraph shall be omitted; and
(b)
“(bb)
listed drugs and medicines and listed appliances which are ordered for those persons by a prescribed description of registered nurse, midwife or health visitor in pursuance of such functions; and”.
This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to those of section 2 of the Medicinal Products: Prescription by Nurses etc. Act 1992.
The Order extends the duty of Health and Social Services Boards in Northern Ireland to arrange for the provision of pharmaceutical services, to cover the supply of such drugs, medicines and appliances as are listed by the Department of Health and Social Services and prescribed by particular categories of nurses, midwives or health visitors in pursuance of their functions in the health service.
