NORTHERN IRELAND

This Order is made only for purposes corresponding to the purposes of the provisions of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 mentioned in section 66(2) of that Act. Part II provides for the making of special measures directions in relation to vulnerable and intimidated witnesses. Part III protects certain witnesses from cross-examination by the accused. Part IV provides certain protection for complainants in sexual offences. Part V deals with the competence of witnesses in criminal proceedings and the giving of sworn and unsworn evidence. Part VI amends the law on inferences from silence and removes restrictions on the use of evidence from computer records.
