Canada Geese Order (Northern Ireland) 1987

The Department of the Environment—

(b)

having consulted the Committee for Nature Conservation and having given district councils and other persons affected an opportunity to submit objections or representations with respect to the subject matter of the Order; and

(c)

having taken into consideration the objections and representations received;

hereby makes the following Order:—

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Canada Geese Order (Northern Ireland) 1987 and shall come into operation on 4th December 1987.

Permission to kill or take Canada geese outside the close season

2.  The following bird shall be added in the appropriate place to Part I of Schedule 2 to the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985:—

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order places Canada geese (Branta canadensis) in Part I of Schedule 2 to the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 and this allows them to be killed or taken by legal means outside the close season, subject to the provisions of the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985. The “close season” means the period in any year commencing with 1st February and ending with 31st August.
