Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order continues in force indefinitely the provisions of the Experimental Speed Limit (Route A1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1995 which prohibits in the interests of safety the driving of motor vehicles at a speed greater than 60 miles per hour on—

(a)the northbound carriageway of Route A1, from a point approximately 675 metres south-west of its junction with Newry Road, Route A26, Banbridge, to a point approximately 222 metres north of its junction with Dromore Road, Route A26, Banbridge;

(b)the southbound carriageway of Route A1, from a point approximately 210 metres north-east of its junction with Waringsford Road, Banbridge, to a point approximately 485 metres south-west of its junction with Cascum Road, Banbridge;

(c)the northbound carriageway of Route A1, from a point approximately 660 metres south-west of its junction with Rowantree Road, Dromore, to a point approximately 674 metres east of its junction with Milebush Road, Unclassified No. 4022, Dromore; and

(d)the southbound carriageway of Route A1, from a point approximately 350 metres north of its junction with Grove Road, Dromore, to a point approximately 304 metres south-west of its junction with Banbridge Road, Route B2, Dromore.

Any person who acts in contravention of the Order shall be guilty of an offence under the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale (£1,000).

Traffic signs indicating the effect of the Order have been erected on the road.
