This Order appoints dates for the coming into operation of the provisions of the Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. The Order will come into operation in two phases. The first phase on 30th June 1997 will establish the Commission for Racial Equality for Northern Ireland and enable it to make arrangements for the exercise of its functions. The first phase also brings into operation certain provisions authorising the making of Regulations and Orders. The second phase on 4th August 1997 will implement the remaining provisions of the Order — discrimination in the employment field generally, in education and in relation to goods, facilities, services and premises.
