Interpretation

2.—(1) In these Regulations—

“the 1964 Order” means the Tuberculosis Control Order (Northern Ireland) 1964(1);

“approved eartag” means an eartag which is approved by the Department for the purposes of Article 4.1 of the Council Regulation and which complies with that Article, with Article 1.1 and 1.2 of the Commission Regulation and with the requirements of regulations 3(3) and 4;.

“the Council Regulation” means Council Regulation 820/97 establishing a system for the identification and registration of bovine animals and regarding the labelling of beef and beef products(2);

“the Commission Regulation” means Commission Regulation (EC) No. 2629/97(3); and

“member State” means any member State of the European Community other than the United Kingdom.

(2) In these Regulations, other expressions which are also used in the Cattle Identification (Enforcement) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998(4) shall have the same meaning as in those Regulations.

(3) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(5) shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

(4) Any approval, licence or notice given to any person under these Regulations, the Council Regulation or the Commission Regulation—

(a)shall be in writing

(b)may be made subject to such conditions as may be specified therein; and

(c)may be amended, suspended or revoked by notice in writing given to that person at any time.
