The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(2) of the Industrial Pollution Control (Northern Ireland) Order 19971 and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation1

This Order may be cited as the Industrial Pollution Control (1997 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998.

Appointed Day2

The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of the Industrial Pollution Control (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 which are specified in column 1 of the Schedule and which relate to the subject matter specified in column 2 thereof shall be 2nd March 1998.

The entry relative to the Pollution Control and Local Government (Northern Ireland) Order 19783 insofar as it refers to the words “or the place at which he does so is a work registered in pursuance of section 9 of the Alkali Act” in Article 56(1)

The entry relative to Schedule 3 to the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Northern Ireland) Order 19854 insofar as it repeals paragraphs 32 to 33

This Order brings certain provisions of the Industrial Pollution Control (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 into operation on 2nd March 1998, which makes provision for integrated pollution control and air pollution control systems to control the release of polluting emissions from industrial plant processes in Northern Ireland.
