Motor Vehicle Testing (Amendment) (Fees) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 61(6), 62, 75(8), 81(8) and (9) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicle Testing (Amendment) (Fees) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1999.

Amendment of the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995

2.  Schedule 1(2) (fees) to the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995(3) shall be amended as follows—

(a)in paragraphs 1(b), 3(b) and 3(g) for the amount of “£17.50” there shall be substituted “£17.00”;

(b)in paragraphs 2(b) and 4(b) for the amount of “£10.00” there shall be substituted “£9.50”; and

(c)in paragraph 3, for sub-paragraph (h) there shall be substituted—

(h)Goods vehicle over 3,500 kilograms maximum gross weight—

(i)2 axle rigid vehicle ... ... ... ... £25.00

(ii)3 axle rigid vehicle ... ... ... ... £30.00

(iii)4 axle rigid vehicle ... ... ... ... £32.50

(iv)articulated vehicle having a 2 axle drawing vehicle ... ... ... ... £27.50

(v)articulated vehicle having a 3 axle drawing vehicle ... ... ... ... £32.50.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations further amend the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 by amending the fees payable for examinations, inspections and tests.

The fee amendments for examinations are as follows—

(a)for a vehicle in Class III or IV (other than a minibus) from £17.50 to £17.00; and

(b)for a vehicle in Class III or IV (other than a minibus) where an application is made within 21 days from the date of service of a notification of refusal and the vehicle is presented for re-examination on the date and at a time appointed by the Department, from £10.00 to £9.50.

The fees payable for goods vehicles over 3,500 kilograms maximum gross weight which are required to have a full inspection under Article 81 of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 (where driving of a defective vehicle on a road is prohibited) are now divided into 5 categories.

The fee amendments for full inspections are as follows—

(a)for a vehicle in Class III or IV (other than a minibus) and for a goods vehicle of 3.500 kilograms maximum gross weight or under from £17.50 to £17.00;

(b)for a rigid vehicle with 2 axles from £28.00 to £25.00; and

(c)for an articulated vehicle having a 2 axle drawing vehicle from £32.50 to £27.50.

The fee for a 3 axle rigid vehicle remains unchanged at £30.00 and the fee for a 4 axle rigid vehicle and an articulated vehicle having a 3 axle drawing vehicle remains unchanged at £32.50.

The fee for a test under Article 75(5) (where vehicle has previously failed a roadside test) or a partial inspection under Article 81 of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 for a vehicle in Class III or IV (other than a minibus) is reduced from £10.00 to £9.50.
