Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 66(1) and 218(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 1st June 2000.

Amendment of the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995

2.  For Schedule 6 to the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995(2) there shall be substituted the Schedule set out in the Schedule to these Regulations.

Permitted variants: “5 persons”; “7 persons”; or “8 persons” may be substituted for “6 persons”..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations amend the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 by substituting Schedule 6, which shows the plate to be displayed by a taxi with a taximeter and licensed for public hire. Previously the plate indicated that a vehicle was licensed to carry 6 persons, with a permitted variant of 5 persons. The new plate indicates that a vehicle is licensed to carry 6 persons, with permitted variants of 5 persons, 7 persons or 8 persons.

The Departmental logo shown on the plate has been updated.
