Coming into operation

The Department of the Environment, being a Department designated1 for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19722 in relation to the regulation and supervision of working conditions of persons engaged in road transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation1

These Regulations may be cited as the Community Drivers' Hours (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) (Temporary Exception) (No. 2) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 and shall come into operation on 7th July 2001.

The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 19543 shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Amendment of the Community Drivers' Hours (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) (Temporary Exception) (No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 20012

The Community Drivers' Hours (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) (Temporary Exception) (No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 20014 shall be amended as follows—

a

in regulation 2(1) (Interpretation), after the definition of “machinery” there shall be added the following definition—

  • “prescribed period” means the period of 30 days beginning on 6th July 2001;

b

in regulation 3(1), the phrase “until 7th July” and the figure “2001” wherever it appears shall be deleted and after “vehicle” there shall be inserted “in the prescribed period”.

These Regulations extend the expiry date of the exceptions for a further period of 30 days from (and including) 7th July to (and including) 5th August 2001. The European Commission has authorised the continuation of the temporary exception provided for by these Regulations.
