EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This is the fourth Commencement Order to be made under the Disability Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 (“the Order”). The Order extensively amends the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (“the 1995 Act”).

Article 2(1) brings into operation section 21F of the 1995 Act for the purpose only of exercising any power to make regulations.

Article 2(2) brings into operation the Order’s provisions on district councils, police, application of sections 19 to 21 of the 1995 Act to transport vehicles, discriminatory advertisements, group insurance, the power to modify or end small dwellings exemption; and, to the extent that they are not already in operation, discrimination by public authorities, private clubs, discrimination in relation to letting of premises, improvement to let dwelling houses and generalisation of section 56 of the 1995 Act and specified paragraphs of Schedule 1 (minor and consequential amendments) and specified entries in Schedule 2 (repeals).
