Coming into operation

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety1 makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 4, 6, 10(3) and 15(1) of, and paragraphs 5 and 8 of Schedule 1 to, the Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order 20062.

Citation and commencement1

These Regulations may be cited as the Smoke-free (Exemptions, Vehicles, Penalties and Discounted Amounts) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008 and shall come into operation on 1st September 2008.

Amendment of the Smoke-free (Exemptions, Vehicles, Penalties and Discounted Amounts) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 20072

The Smoke-free (Exemptions, Vehicles, Penalties and Discounted Amounts) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 20073 shall be amended in accordance with paragraph (2).

In regulation 5(1) (Other residential accommodation) for the words “aged 16 years” there is substituted the words “aged 18 years”.

These Regulations amend regulation 5(1) of the Smoke-free (Exemptions, Vehicles, Penalties and Discounted Amounts) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007. The amendment to regulation 5(1) is linked to the raising of the age of sale of tobacco and cigarette papers from 16 years to 18 years of age.
