The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 12(2) of the Libraries Act (Northern Ireland)(1), makes the following Order.
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Libraries (2008 Act) (Commencement No.1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2008.
(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Libraries Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
2. The day appointed for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the Act —
(a)Section 1(1) and (2) (Power to establish the Northern Ireland Library Authority);
(b)Section 3 (Ancillary powers of Authority);
(c)Section 4 (Power of the Authority to undertake commercial activities);
(d)Section 5 (Powers of the Authority in relation to land);
(e)Section 9 (Directions);
(f)Section 10(1);
(g)Schedule 1(Northern Ireland Library Authority); and
(h)Schedule 3 (Amendments)
is 1st October 2008.

This Order provides for the coming into operation of Sections 1 (part), 3, 4,5 9 and 10 (1) and Schedules 1 and 3 of the Libraries Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 relating to establishing the body to be known as the Northern Ireland Library Authority and giving it specified powers.
