The Welfare Reform (2007 Act) (Commencement No. 3) Order (Northern Ireland) 2008

The Department for Social Development makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 60(1) of the Welfare Reform Act (Northern Ireland) 20071.

Citation and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Welfare Reform (2007 Act) (Commencement No. 3) Order (Northern Ireland) 2008.

In this Order “the Act” means the Welfare Reform Act (Northern Ireland) 2007.

Appointed days2

The day appointed for the coming into operation of—

a

section 30(2) and (3) of the Act (local housing allowance), for the purpose only of authorising the making of regulations, is 10th March 2008; and

b

section 30 of the Act in so far as not already in operation, in Schedule 8 to the Act the repeal of section 129(4) of the Contributions and Benefits Act and section 58 of the Act in so far as it relates to that repeal, is 7th April 2008.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for the coming into operation of provisions of the Welfare Reform Act (Northern Ireland) 2007 relating to housing benefit as follows—

section 30(2) and (3) (local housing allowance), for the purpose only of authorising the making of regulations, on 10th March 2008; and
section 30, in so far as not already in operation, and a consequential repeal, on 7th April 2008.
